Heat oven to 350F (325F for glass pans). Grease and flour 2 loaf pans, 9x5x3". Prepare Betty Crocker chocolate, devil's food, yellow, or white cake mix as directed on package except - use 2 tbsp less water. Pour into pans. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool.
Cut desired number of slices from cake. Put slices together in pairs with frosting.
Use yellow or white cake mix; stir 1/2 tsp. almond extract into batter. Before baking, sprinkle 1/4 cup sliced almonds on batter in each pan.
Cherry Nut Loaves:
Fold 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts and 1/2 cup drained finely chopped maraschino cherries into batter.
Use chocolate or devils food cake mix; stir 1/4 tsp. peppermint extract into batter.
Use yellow or white cake mix; fold 2 tbsp. grated orange peel into batter.
Toasted Coconut Loaves:
Use yellow or white cake mix; fold 1 to 1 1/2 cups flaked coconut into batter.
