This recipe was obtained and served its contents to many for more than 85 years.
1 cup sugar
1 cup shortening or 1 1/2 cups margarine
2 cups Robin Hood flour
Pinch of salt
2 cups rolled oats
Mix all ingredients together then add 1/2 cup of sour milk with 1/2 tsp. baking soda.
Roll out and cut with cookie cutter.
Bake for about 10 to 12 minutes in hot oven (400F).
Add 2 cups of water to 1 lb. of dates and cook on top of stove in open pot until contents thickens. When date mixture is thickened remove from stove burner, add 1 tsp. vanilla, then let cool.
