1 3/4 cups all purpse flour
1/3 cup Fry's cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1/3 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 cups chopped, drained maraschino cherries (reserve juice for Glaze)
1 cup chopped nuts
Maraschino cherry halves

Chocolate Glaze:
1/4 cup butter
1/3 cup cocoa
1/4 cup cherry juice
1/4 tsp. almond extract
2 cups icing sugar
Makes 4 dozen
Stir together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt.
Cream butter; gradually beat in sugar.
Beat in egg, vanilla and almond extract.
Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.
Stir in cherries and nuts.
Drop from small spoon onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake in preheated 375F oven for 10 to 12 minutes.
Cool.
Frost with Chocolate Glaze; top with cherries.

Chocolate Glaze:
Melt butter in small saucepan.
Stir in cocoa.
Blend in cherry juice, almond extract and icing sugar until smooth.
