Can pets get infected by someone with chickenpox?

I'm an adult who recently contracted chickenpox. I have a cat and a dog, and am worried especially when I reach my 2nd week of chickenpox (which I'm told is when I'm most contagious). I found a site that says pets can't have it, can someone verify for me? Thanks.

good question i am going threw a reoccurring chicken pox right now myself. but i don't know if it is contagious or not to animals. my guess would be probably not. think about it, have you ever herd of any dog having chicken pox? and when kids have chicken pox i am sure some of them have pets.

no, although chickenpox (Varicella zoster virus) is a form of the herpes virus, there are 8 types humans can contract, none of them are infectious to dogs or cats. Just humans. However most animals have their own versions of a herpes virus.

Theoretically yes. If it is viral it can mutate. It is unlikely that your pets would catch what you have, improbable not impossible. Remember the avian flu that went from bird to human or the swine flu that went from pig to human. Small pox is a form of cow disease. AIDS is a monkey disease (I wonder how people got it from monkeys).
