Lollipops

18 lollipop sticks
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup light corn syrup
3/4 cup sugar
few drops food color
18 2" lollipops
Arrange sticks on lightly buttered baking sheet.
In a 1qt. saucepan, combine butter, corn syrup and sugar.
Heat to boiling over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
Reduce heat to medium.
Continue cooking, stirring frequently, to 270F on candy thermometer or until a few drops of syrup dropped inot very cold water separate into threads that are hard but not brittle.
Remove from heat.
Stir in food color.
Drop mixture by tablespoonfuls over end of each stick.
If desired, whil lollipops are hot, press on candy decorations.
Cool lollipops thoroughly before removing from baking sheet.
To decorate when cool, brush underside of candy decorations with corn syrup; press onto lollipops.
