Any basil plant advice for me?

I have been growing a few basil plants in a pot over the summer and have now pulled them inside due to chilly weather. All along they have been kind of yellow-ish green, and quite rangy--not like the basil plants that I've seen in other places.Are there any tips for proper care (and snipping) of basil to keep it at optimum health? I would love to cook with fresh basil all winter!Great answers--but what's making the color so weak?

cut it just above the 3rd set of leaves. it will grow bushy.also what i do is when i have to cut it to keep it from not growingi freeze the cuttings than burry the frozen peices in their pots. it provides airation, natural fertilizer, and will decompose over time.did you know basil actually provides more flavor and grows healthier with natural fertilizer (like the frozen baisil) rather than the chemical kind? that could be your problem.

Herbs generally do better without fertilising the soil because they are found in tough growing conditions. Do not feed your basil but keep it watered as necessary and keep near sunlight by a window.

The biggest thing you need to know about clipping is to make sure you get all those flower heads off. The plant starts to put all its energy into reproducing and less into making leaves when the flower heads are left on. I do think you need to fertilize but with an organic fertilizer like Dynamite organic fertlizer. It's a granular food you sprinkle into the soil and water in and it feeds it for nine months. I honestly think that and making sure it has a lot of light, even artificial lamps, is what will keep it nice and green.
