Pre-heat oven to 375*F
Soak raisins in boiled water. Set aside.
Greased muffin tins.

1 cup flour,
1 tsp. baking soda,
1 tsp. baking powder,
1/2 tsp. salt,
1/2 cup brown sugar,
1 cup butter milk,or sour cream,
1 cup natural bran,
1/3 cup oil,
1 egg,
1 tsp. vanilla,
3/4 cup raisins, (optional)

Into a large bowl, put flour, baking powder, baking soda, and
salt. Stir together well. Push up around the sides of the bowl
making a well in the center. In another bowl, stir in butter milk, or sour cream, and bran. Let it stand.
Add remaining ingredients to bran mixture in order given.
Beat in egg, brown sugar, oil, vanilla. Beat with spoon until mixed. Pour into well in first bowl. Stir just to moistened.
Batter will be lumpy. Fill greased muffin tins 3/4 full.
Bake at 375*F. for 20 to 25 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes.
Remove from muffin tins.
