1/3 cup shortening
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg
1 1/2 cups Gold Medal flour (If using self-rising flour, omit baking soda and salt.)
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. mace
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. allspice
2 1/2 cups candied fruit (about 1 lb)
2 cups coarsely chopped nuts

Heat oven to 325F. Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar, molasses and egg. Stir in remaining ingredients. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls about 1" apart onto lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes.
