Are medical gloves a requirement in a health care facility?

I work as a Residential Assistant for a company in Illinois. We care for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled. (Health Care setting) We come in contact with MRSA, yeast infections, waste, etc. Neither my boss, nor anyone from the company informed me that we do not use medical gloves of any sort. Our company orders non-medical "food service" latex and vinyl gloves. Is there some sort of regulation regarding this matter? I am concerned for the safety of others in the building. I'm afraid to say that food service gloves will not prevent us from being exposed to these types of bacterias/infections. What can I do?

Yes.But, vinyl and latex can be Health care quality. Check your brand of glove, find out what they are made to handle. If they aren't up to par, that is a problem.Go back to your company's training on PPE (Personal protective equipment). PPE training is an OSHA requirement.I hope this helps to point you in the right direction and I hope your research will alleviate your fears. Maybe it will turn out that they are ok, and you can avoid a situation.
