Pie dough

1 lb. Schneiders crispy flake shortening
5 1/2 cups flour
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1 tbsp. vinegar
cold water
Makes approx. 6 9" pie shells
In a large bowl, blend flour and shortening (room temperature) with a fork or pastry blender until mealy.
In a measuring cup, add egg, salt, sugar, and vinegar.
Beat well.
Add enough water to egg mixture to bring level up to 1 cup.
Mix to a uniform colour.
Add slowly to flour mixture, stirring until a ball is formed.
Roll out onto floured surface.
