If you have a miscarriage, how soon do pregnancy tests start reading negative?

I'm six weeks along, and every time I have a slight pain or spotting, I start to wonder if I'm having a miscarriage. Every website says the same thing: these things don't "always" indicate miscarriage. Well, that means they sometimes do, right? My first doctor's appointment isn't for three weeks, and I'm thinking of buying another test. How soon would it start reading negative if I had miscarried?

About 30 days but that would be well after bleeding and pain. You haven't truly miscarried until everything is out of you THEN your hcg will drop.

It can take several weeks to a month for you to get a negative test after miscarriage. I was 7 weeks along when I had my miscarriage and took 3 weeks for a pregnancy test to say negative. Pains and cramping can be normal...spotting or other bleeding would make me go to the ER....they will more than likely do an ultrasound. Best of luck!

well first dont stress about it. it could be anything. second if the pain is on one side of your body and it gets worse you could have a tubal pregnancy and need to go to the hospital immediately. third, as long as you have the pregnancy hormone in your body, you will have a positive pregnancy test. HCG is the hormone that your body produces when you get pregnant and it is also the hormone detected in pregnancy test to determine whether you are pregnant or not. depending on how high the levels are in your body will depend on how long it takes for it to go back to pre-pregnancy levels. you may want to go to the hospital anyway just because your are having pains and are spotting. like i said it could be anything but thats what i would do just to be on the safe side and since your appointment is not for another 3 weeks it will put your mind at ease to know whats going on with your body.
