Apple Custard

6 medium baking apples, pared and cored
3/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
2 tbsp. soft butter
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
2 eggs
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
2 cups milk, scalded
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Place apples in individual baking dishes. Mix brown sugar, butter and cinnamon; fill centers of apples with sugar mixture. Beat eggs, granulated sugar, salt, milk and vanilla; divide egg mixture among dishes.

Place dishes in baking pan; pour in very hot water (1" deep). Bake 45 to 60 minutes or until knife inserted in custard comes out clean. Sere warm or cool.
