1 cup Gold Medal flour (if using self-rising, omit salt and baking soda)
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 cup canned red tart cherries plus enough liquid to fill cup
1/2 cup coarsely chopped nuts
1 tbsp. butter or margarine

Grease baking pan, 9x9x2". Mix all ingredients. Pour into pan. Bake about 40 minutes. Serve warm with caramel topping if you wish.
