Try a variety of colors and shapes. Make well in advance and store in fridge. Layer between waxed paper.

1/4 cup butter or hard margarine, softened
1 cup icing (confectioner's) sugar
1 tsp. vanilla or brandy flavoring
Milk, for thinning
Food coloring, if desired
Makes a scant 1 cup sauce
Beat butter, icing sugar and vanilla together.
Add a bit of milk if needed, to make a touch softer.
Work in food coloring with hands.
Spread about 1/4" thick on cookie sheet.
Roll to smooth.
Chill.
Use cookie cutter to cut into Christmas trees, stars or balls.
Remove with lifter.
Soften scraps to room temperature.
Repeat.
