Family is planning a Disneyland and LA vacation, can I accomplish both with one hotel location?

LA and Anaheim are rather close in proximity, but is the traffic too much that it would be better to choose an Anaheim hotel for Disney, then move to an LA hotel for that portion of the trip? What are some recommendations?

Depends on if you want maximal time sightseeing or don't mind a few hours on the freeway & how comfortable you feel driving around. Staying at the hotels in or by Disney is nice because you will be exhausted and its nice to be able to just walk to the hotel for a break & collapse. Then its nice to be closer to the action in LA for the exact same reason. Price would also dictate what hotels you would be interested in--so it is hard to advise without some more info.

It would be best to stay in Anaheim, then go to a hotel in LA. Perhaps LA and Anaheim are in close proximity in comparison to Los Angeles and London, but that 35 miles can easily take 2 hours or more in traffic. And that's no fun on vacation.Since LA is so spread out, there is no single place that is close to EVERYTHING. Most people who come here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim. In Hollywood, I recommend the Orchid Suites, Hollywood Celebrity Hotel, or Hollywood Heights (formerly Holiday Inn Walk of Fame), all near Hollywood and Highland. In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and reasonably priced. In Anaheim, I recommend the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn. There is also a nice place in Burbank called the Best Western Media Center, very close to Warner, NBC, and Universal Studios.
