1 cup Gold Medal flour (if using self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt)
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp. cocoa
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup milk
2 tbsp. shortening, melted
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
1/4 cup cocoa
1 3/4 cups hot water

Heat oven to 350F. In mixing bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, 2 tbsp. cocoa, the baking powder and salt. Stir in milk, shortening and nuts. Pour batter into ungreased baking pan, 9x9x2". Stir together brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa; sprinkle over batter in pan. Pour hot water on batter.

Bake 45 minutes. While hot, cut pudding into squares; invert onto dessert plates and spoon sauce over each. Serve warm and, if you wish, with whipped cream.
