Makes 5 dozen

Crust:

* 2 1/2 cups flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 2 sticks butter
* 1 teaspoon instant coffee
* 1 teaspoon vanilla
* 2 cups light brown sugar
* 2 eggs
* 3 cups oats
* 2 cups chopped pecans

Filling:

* 1 can (14.5 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
* 2 cups chocolate chips
* 2 tablespoons butter
* Pinch of salt
* 1 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 15-by-10-by-1-inch pan.

To make crust: Sift flour, soda and salt together in a bowl.

Cream the butter in a large bowl. Add coffee, vanilla and brown sugar. Beat
well.

Add eggs. Beat well. With the mixer on low speed, gradually beat in the dry
ingredients.

Mix in oats, scraping down side of bowl. Mix in 1 cup pecans. Reserve 1 cup of
this dough.

Using floured fingers, press remaining dough into prepared pan in an even layer.

To make topping:

Place milk, chocolate, butter and salt in the top of a double
boiler over simmering water. Stir until the chocolate is melted. Remove from
over heat. Stir in vanilla.

Pour chocolate mixture over crust. Drop the reserved batter over this layer by
teaspoon (do not spread). Sprinkle with remaining nuts.

Bake 25 minutes. Cool completely before cutting into bars or squares.
