Does anyone have any tips on window treatments for a kitchen and/or living room?

I'm looking for something simple for both rooms, maybe a blue for the kitchen, and for the living room blue or off white. But here is the problem, I don'tt know what kinda of blinds to even get for the living room! Do I get cloth or orplasticc, roll up or side to side? HELP!! thank you

I just like a valance in the kitchen, since I like lots of light. If you have a sliding door in the LR, then you need side-to-side blinds... otherwise, Roman shades are very trendy. You can get off-white, with just banding in a blue pattern (or maybe have that match the kitchen). You don't need curtains then. Cloth is much more "upscale" than any type of plastic......
