Special Chocolate Fudge

Sweet -- like fudge should be!

3 cups granulated sugar
1 cup light cream
3 x 1oz. unsweetened chocolate baking squares, cut up
2 tbsp. corn syrup
2 tbsp. butter or hard margarine
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
Cuts into 36 pieces
Combine first 6 ingredients in 3 quart heavy saucepan.
Heat and stir slowly until sugar is dissolved.
Bring to a boil.
Boil slowly until soft ball stage is reached on candy thermometer or until a small spoonful dropped in cold water forms a soft ball.
Remove from heat.
Remove thermometer.
Let stand 40 minutes to cool slightly.
Add vanilla.
Beat until it loses its gloss and starts to thicken.
Quickly add walnuts.
Pour into greased 8 x 8" pan.
Cool.
