6 medium to large, old potatoes 6
4 large cloves garlic, unpeeled, but cut in half 4
1 bay leaf, broken in half 1
4 tbsp butter 60 g
salt and pepper
Grease a shallow ovenproof dish.
Peel the potatoes and cut each one into halves or quarters, depending on size. Place into dish with garlic cloves and bay leaf.
Melt the butter and pour over the top; add plenty of salt and pepper and toss gently with a spoon and a fork.
Cover with foil and bake in moderate oven, 350°F/180°C, for 20 minutes. Uncover and bake a further 45 minutes to 1 hour. Toss potatoes once during this time.
Remove garlic and bay leaf before serving.
