Preheat oven to 325F
Grease a 7" square 3" deep fruit cake pan. Line with brown paper and grease again.
1 2/3 cups pre-sifted Monarch soft wheat flour
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup butter
1 cup granulated sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
Sift together flour, cream of tartar and salt.
Cream thoroughly, butter.
Very gradually, beat in sugar.
Beat for 3 minutes.
One at a time, beat in eggs.
Beat for 2 minutes after each egg.
Blend in vanilla.
Very gradually, add the sifted dry ingredients to the creamed mixture.
Mix only until blended.
Bake for 60 to 65 minutes.
