Nice flaky layer. Serve with cheese slices.
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tbsp. granulated sugar
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 - 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 cup butter or hard margarine
1 cup raisins or currants
1 1/3 cups milk
Makes 18 biscuits
Measure first 7 ingredients into bowl.
Stir well.
Cut butter into flour mixture until crumbly.
Add raisins and milk.
Stir with a fork to form a soft ball.
Knead on lightly floured surface 8 to 10 times.
Roll or pat dough 1" thick.
Cut into 2 1/2" circles.
Arrange about 2" apart on greased baking sheet.
Bake in 425F oven for 20 to 30 minutes until risen and browned.
Serve warm with butter, jam or Lemon Spread.
