1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup white-distilled vinegar
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
2 pounds ground beef
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 large egg
1/4 cup grated onion
1/4 cup crushed saltine crackers
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).
In a bowl combine tomato sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, and prepared mustard; set aside.
In another bowl combine ground beef, sliced mushrooms, egg, grated onion, crushed crackers, salt, and pepper; kneading until well mixed.
Add half the tomato sauce mixture to the meat mixture. Pat the meat into a loaf pan. Pour the remaining sauce on top. Bake for 45 minutes.
Makes 6 servings.
