Recipe Feeder
2-1/2 cups all purpose flour, sifted 600 mL
1-1/2 tsp baking soda 7 mL
1 tsp ground ginger 5 mL
1 tsp ground cinnamon 5 mL
1/2 tsp ground cloves 2 mL
1/2 tsp salt 2 mL
1/2 cup shortening and butter, mixed 125 mL
1/2 cup sugar 125 mL
1 egg 1
1 cup molasses 250 mL
1 cup hot water 250 mL

Preheat oven to 350°F/180°C.

Sift together dry ingredients.

Cream shortening and butter and sugar. Add beaten egg and molasses. Add dry ingredients.

Add hot water last and beat until smooth.

Pour batter in a greased and floured 8-in/20-cm square pan.

Bake for approximately 45 minutes or until done.
