Maple Bars

1/2 cup sugar
2/3 cup sifted flour
1/2 cup soft shortening (I use 1/4 cup butter and 1/4 cup shortening)
1 cup nutmeats
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
Servings: 16
Heat oven to 350ºF. Grease a square pan, 8 × 8 inches. Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Spread in prepared pan. Bake 30-35 minutes. Cut into squares while still warm.

Yield: 16 Bars
