Welsh Cakes

A nice change from crackers. Serve with Date Nut Log.

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 cup butter or hard margarine
3/4 cup cut glazed mixed fruit (see Note)
1 large egg
1/3 cup milk
Makes about 24 small cakes
Measure first 6 ingredients into large bowl.
Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.
Add fruit.
Stir.
Beat egg with fork in separate bowl.
Stir in milk.
Add egg and milk to flour mixture.
Stir just until moistened.
Rol out 1/4" thick on lightly floured surface.
Cut into 2" rounds.
Grease frying pan for first round of cakes.
It shouldn't need greasing again.
Fry on medium-low, browning both sides.

Note:
Red and green glazed cherries can be used in place of the fruit.
