5 apples
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup water
3/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 tablespoon butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Pare and quarter apples. Place sugar and water in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Add the apples and cook until tender. Remove apples with a slotted spoon. Place in sherbet glasses. Mix cornstarch milk; add to syrup and boil a few minutes. Add butter, salt and vanilla. Pour over apples. Serve hot or cold.
