Dark Date Bread


1 cup boiling water
1 cup raisins
1 cup cut-up dates
3 tbsp. butter or margarine
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 3/4 cup Gold Medal Flour (if using self-rising flour, omit baking soda and salt)
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Grease and flour loaf pan, 9x5x3". Pour boiling water over raisins, dates, butter and baking soda; let stand. Mix flour, sugar and salt; beat in fruit mixture and remaining ingredients. Pour batter into pan. Bake 60 to 70 minutes.
