Devilsfood Cake

2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2/3 cup soft shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
3 eggs
3 squares (ounces) baking chocolate, melted
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
2 8" square layers
Sift together flour, baking soda and salt.
Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy.
Add eggs, one at a time, and beat thoroughly.
Blend in chocolate.
Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk, blending well after each addition.
Bake in two greased, 8" Bake King square cake pans in a moderate oven (350F) for about 40 minutes or until done.
Cool thoroughly.
Frost with your favorite icing.
