Steamed Chocolate Pudding

A delightful change from the fruit steamed puddings. Good with either sauce.

1/2 cup butter or hard margarine, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups all purpose flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup milk
2 x 1oz. unsweetened chocolate baking squares, cut up

Brown Sugar Sauce:
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 cups water
1 tbsp. butter or hard margarine
1 tsp. vanilla
Makes 1 pudding
Cream butter and sugar in large bowl.
Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add vanilla.
Mix.
Measure flour, baking powder and salt into separate bowl.
Stir.
Add milk in 2 parts alternately with flour mixture in 3 parts beginning and ending with flour.
Melt chocolate on low, stirring often.
Stir into batter.
Turn into greased 2 quart pudding pan.
Cover with double square greased foil, tying in place.
Place in steamer with boiling water 2/3 up the side of pan.
Cover steamer.
Boil for 1 hour adding more boiling water as needed to keep level up.

Brown Sugar Sauce:
Stir first 3 ingredients together in saucepan.
Add water.
Stir well.
Heat and stir on medium until mixture boils and thickens.
Stir in butter and vanilla.
Server over Steamed Chocolate Pudding.
Makes 2 1/2 cups sauce.
