1beaten egg
1/4 cup rolled oats
2tbs water
1/4tsp salt
1/4tsp pepper
1 pound lean ground beef, pork, veal
1tbs butter or marg
1 small sweet onion (vadalia)
2tsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp dry mustard
2 cups loosely packed baby spinach(fresh, coursely chopped)
6 tbs light semisoft cheese with garlic and herbs(any flavour cream cheese)
3 whole wheat pita halved
Preheat broiler. In a medium bowl stir together eggs, oats, water, salt and pepper. Add ground meat;mix well. Shape into 6 oval patties. Place on unheated rack on broiler pan. Broil 3-4 inches from heat for 10-12 mins, turning once.
Meanwhile, in a medium nonstick skillet melt butter over low heat. Add onion. Cook, covered for 13-15mins. Add brown sugar and dry mustard. Cook uncovered, over medium high heat for 3-4 mins., stirring constantly. Stir in spinach. Toss lightly to coat; heat through.
Spread 1 tbs of cheese on 1 side of pita. Fill each pita with mixture and 1 meat patty.
